A SECTION of a pub in Anglesey is to be demolished and rebuilt after a fire ripped through the premises earlier this year.

In June, the Gaerwen Arms, at Chapel Street, Gaerwen, suffered “catastrophic” damage after a blaze was started by a tumble dryer in an outbuilding.

The outbuilding, kitchen, restaurant and public bar suffered significant damage.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the blaze due to the pub being closed.

The owners have now said the extent of the damage will result in a section of the pub being demolished and rebuilt, with no timescale for the completion of the work.

The operators of the Gaerwen Arms also announced they would be taking on Piccadilly Inn in Caerwys, but hoped it was not a “goodbye forever” for the Anglesey pub.

In a notice to customers on social media, the Gaerwen Arms said: “As a result of the damage caused by the devastating fire back in June, it has been confirmed that the single-story section of the pub building needs to be fully demolished and rebuilt.

“With the timescale unknown for how long construction work will take, we have decided to begin a new adventure.

“As such, we are incredibly proud and excited to let you know that we’re getting ready to serve you again at The Piccadilly Inn in Caerwys.

“Our amazing head chef, Oli, and some other familiar faces from the team are already working hard preparing the space and, most importantly, creating our delicious new menu, which of course includes some of your GA favourites.

“Alas, this news is somewhat bittersweet in that it does mean farewell to our beloved Andy. He will forever be part of the family and we wish him all the very best with his new chapter.

“We do hope this isn’t goodbye forever for The Gaerwen Arms, but that, in the meantime, you’ll come and dine with us at our new home.”
