A HOTEL in Anglesey has been handed a one-out-of-five rating by food hygiene inspectors, with ‘major improvement necessary’ in one area.

Château Rhianfa, on Beaumaris Road, Menai Bridge, scored poorly following an assessment on August 9.

The hotel’s management of food safety was rated ‘major improvement necessary’ by inspectors.

This concerns the checks in place to ensure that food is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and that the food safety officer had confidence that such standards will be maintained in the future.

Meanwhile, its hygienic food handling, including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage, and the cleanliness and condition of its facilities and building were rated ‘improvement necessary’.

Château Rhianfa was first built in the 19th century as a dower house for Lady Sarah Hay-Williams.

It officially opened as a hotel in 2012, following a multi-million pound restoration project, and also won ‘best romantic hotel' at the 2019 Welsh Wedding Awards.

It was previously rated one-out-of-five for food hygiene back in 2021.

Château Rhianfa was approached for comment.
