LLANGEFNI unable to end the WRU National League Division One title charge of Pwllheli in their 59-35 home reverse.

A large crowd at Cae Smyrna were treated to some scintillating attacking rugby throughout, and the home side went ahead early on thanks to a well-struck penalty from Carwyn Millburn.

This provoked a strong response from Pwll’, who went over for the first try of the game soon after through Caron Jones after some good work from Nick Butterworth.

Back came Cefni and they dotted over when Rich Foulkes rounded off a fine team move, which Millburn converted, but this was met with an instant response from the impressive John Pugh and things got even better for the visitors soon after when Osian Jones crossed the white wash.

Jones despatched one of the conversion attempts, and this was swiftly followed by Pugh’s second score of the afternoon during a rampant spell on the half-hour mark.

The flawless boot of Millburn reduced the deficit with another penalty before the break, but the away side had the final say of the half when number eight Tom Parry powered over.

Cefni scored again during a significant period of pressure thanks to another fine response, but more good work from Pugh saw Kevin Morris and Geraint Williams both go over in quick succession.

Ynnir Jones and Carwyn Owen both secured tries to give the hosts a glimmer of hope in the closing stages, but the outstanding Pugh dived over for his hat-trick and Geraint Parry also touched down to complete the scoring and condemn Cefni to defeat, and they close out their top-flight campaign at title favourites Nant Conwy on Saturday.
