RHUDDLAN Town boss Wayne Hughes outlined his frustration following the Football Association of Wales’ lack of clarity surrounding next season’s start date.

The Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division champions are eagerly awaiting the upcoming campaign, where they will be testing their skills at a higher level after securing promotion to the NWCFA Tier 4 (East) Premier Division.

This appears to be some way off if the latest FAW guidance is any indication, with the stages involved during phase three meaning it will be mid-November at the earliest before teams will be permitted by the Welsh Government to open their campaigns.

Hughes stated that the JD Cymru Premier starting ahead of lower leagues in the Welsh pyramid is a “slap in the face” and even claimed that things “are being made up as they go along”.

He said: “It’s very frustrating really seeing the JD Cymru Premier playing again, it feels like a slap in the face.

“I’m pleased to see some Welsh football being played again, but it makes no sense to me why there is a gap until we can play. We don’t have many spectators at our games so no worries with that one and we could easily work around things like turning up to games in your own kit.

“I just think everything has been made up as we go along, when you have paid for entry fees for leagues, cups and players you get a little excited thinking it can’t be far away now. Starting a season in October or November isn’t going to be ideal as the weather isn’t great. We need to fit league games and cup games in a short matter of time. Probably in the league I can see us only playing each other once.”

These plans are subject to change with coronavirus cases spiking across the country, and if this turns out to be the case then Hughes added that it might be time to start thinking about next year already.

“Hopefully the rise in cases settle down a bit but if they don’t the only thing to do would be to forget about the start of this season and concentrate on next year,” he said.

“That’s the worst-case scenario but at least we would have some answers. I just hope that things pick up as you talk to other managers and they are struggling to get lads to continue with training as there is no end in sight.”
