CONWY Borough have officially confirmed the appointment of Matthew Jones as first team manager.

The Tangerines moved swiftly to replace Chris Morrell, who was relieved from his duties on Monday night.

Jones has previously managed at the likes of Llandudno Junction, Denbigh Town and Rhyl, before spending last season at Llandudno.

He enjoyed mixed success at Maesdu Park during a campaign of transition, and the club parted ways with Jones following the Football Association of Wales’ decision to curtail the season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Chris Wilton, Conwy Borough chairman, said: “The club is absolutely delighted to have secured the services of Matty.

“Having spoken to him at length the club is confident that he shares our vision and is the right man to take us forward.”

The UEFA A Licence candidate will be working alongside Stuart Howson, who is Borough’s new assistant manager, with Roger Jones also joining the set-up as first team coach and physio.

Jones, added: “I am delighted to be joining Conwy Borough as first team manager.

“This has been the easiest decision I’ve made in football after speaking with the chairman and a couple of board members, it is clear that that this is the club I want to call home for years to come.

“I am really excited by the direction the club are looking to go in and can’t wait to get going in being part of the team that moves the club in that direction.

“I am also really pleased that Stu and Rog will be joining me and I can’t wait to speak to the existing players about our plans.”

The first item on Jones’ agenda is contacting members of the squad from last season to outline his plans going forward.
