FORMER Rhyl manager Eddie Maurice-Jones will not be reapplying for the managerial vacancy at the new phoenix club.

The Lilies’ final boss before the storied club was wound up made the decision following a phone conversation with CPD Y Rhyl 1879 chairman Tom Jamieson last week, where he was invited to apply for the role.

This offer was not accepted by Maurice-Jones, who moved to the Lilywhites in 2018 after guiding Denbigh Town to a second-place finish in the Huws Gray Alliance.

The phone conversation was the first time in four weeks that Maurice-Jones has heard from anyone at the club. Playing staff that turned out for Rhyl during the season also kept out of the loop, finding out about the club’s developments on social media rather than officials.

In a statement released on social media site Twitter, Maurice-Jones said: “After much consideration, I will not be applying for a position at the newly formed CPD Y Rhyl 1879.

“My experiences over the last 12 months at Rhyl FC have left me with too much uncertainty and concerns that couldn’t be resolved.

“It has always been one of my highest priorities that each and every player is treated with respect and I feel I have carried that mantra out for the duration of my time with the previous Rhyl FC.

“It is a great shame I feel this way but the players and people around me will fully understand and support my reasons.

“I would like to thank all the supporters and members of the Rhyl Fans Association for their continued support and I wish you all the very best for the future.”

The newly formed club is now inviting applications for their managerial vacancy, with all applicants expected to have or be working towards a UEFA B coaching licence.

Statement on the club’s website, added: “We are seeking to recruit a proven winner with commitment, footballing knowledge and second to none self-motivation to take on the exciting position as the first team manager of CPD Y Rhyl 1879.

“You (the candidate) will be a respected coach across North Wales football who not only can share their plans for success on the pitch but is also willing to work hard to deliver success off it to support our local community.

“This role is fundamental to delivering the club vision and to support the delivery of the CPD Y Rhyl 1879 five-year strategic plan by ensuring that the first team is aligned with all aspects of the club’s ambitions.”

Anyone wishing to apply can do so by emailing adamroche@rhylfc.co.uk.
