BANGOR 1876 have urged their supporters to back a fundraising campaign for Ysbyty Gwynedd’s intensive care unit.

The Gwynedd League side have made an exceptional start to their journey after forming last year and looked primed for promotion when the season gets back underway following the coronavirus fixture suspension.

This has put considerable strain on the National Health Service in the region, which has led to a campaign to provide financial aid to the hospital and ensure they get the best possible treatment.

A club statement, read: “At this time, people who are working to help others - in particular those in the National Health Service - are very much in our thoughts and we admire what you are doing.

“As some of you may know, a fundraising campaign has been started locally in order to raise money to help Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Intensive Care Unit to provide the best possible support.

“We would encourage you to support this cause if you can.”

The club added they understand the “logical” decision made by the FAW regarding the domestic fixture suspension and called on supporters to follow guidelines at all times to prevent the risk of contracting the virus.

“As a club, we would like to extend our good wishes to all of our followers - and indeed those of all other teams - as the coronavirus situation has an increasing impact on our daily lives,” added the spokesman.

“We would encourage everyone to follow the guidance that has been issued by the government in order to try to limit the spread of the disease and keep everyone as safe as possible.

“In the current climate, the fact that there is no football taking place is entirely logical. We are aware that the lack of football is something that many of you have been talking about on social media recently.

“For us, as a club, football is about more than just playing in and watching matches. It is an activity that brings people together, and that can have a positive impact on our local community.

“Indeed, we’re tremendously grateful to our local community for the support that it has shown us since we were founded last year.”
