A MIGHTY battle for a North Wales league title looks likely once more.

In Division One of the Llandudno and District Table Tennis League, Trinity A moved 43 points clear at the top after beating Rhyl A 27-6.

There was a maximum here from Abhishek Bathula and three wins by Stuart Dearden for the loss of only one game.

Title rivals Amlwch A have two matches in hand in second, but the top-two still have to play each other.

Y Morfa A lie a distant third and they were readily outpointed by the improving Police A, who are fourth.

Police A closed to within two points of Y Morfa A, led by Mark Pugh who dropped just the one game and the improving James Wan, who only dropped four on his way to another set of three singles wins.

Conwy A moved away from the foot of the standings following a 25-9 victory over basement side Craig-y-Don A.

Ady Waugh and Gary Blakemore, representing Craig-y-Don, both beat Paul Hulme.

However, the Conwy A win was secured by Chris Phillips and Melvyn Booker, who claimed each of their singles matches and together they landed the doubles.

In Division Two, third-placed Henllan beat second-placed Amlwch B, with Henllan's Harold Furber the strongest player on the night.

He was ably supported by Don Grigg, whose only loss on the night was in a five-game thriller against Jason Coe.

Amlwch C lie fourth following a convincing 30-5 victory over a weakened Police B.

Matthew Winnett, Mark Hadcock and George Higham won all their encounters for the islanders.

Y Morfa B have secured only three wins this season, but they went down fighting 21-18 to Craig-y-Don B.

A fine 3-1 doubles win and 12 games landed by Bill Wooley and Steve Davies were not quite enough.

Craig-y-Don B were led by Nigel Watson, who won his three singles matches for the loss of only one game.
