PENMAENMAWR Phoenix’s hopes of lifting the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two title after they were held 1-1 at Mochdre Sports.

Martyn Jones’ side have been frontrunners for large parts of the season, but following their latest stalemate they now find themselves second on goal difference to Y Felinheli having played three more than their championship rivals.

Both sides missed good chances to break the deadlock in the first period, with Sports’ coming out after the break with an improved sense of urgency that resulted in Kai Davies slotting the opener on 54 minutes.

Phoenix recovered well and managed to secure a share of the spoils late on thanks to Ethan Jones’ net finish with nine remaining.

Llandudno Amatauers’ recent resurgence came to an abrupt halt as they were thrashed 5-0 at home by Llannefydd.

A disastrous start from Sandy Malone’s men saw them go two-behind within the opening quarter hour thanks to goal from Tomos Jones and Huw Jones, and they fell further behind on 30 minutes when an Ed Jones strike went crashing into the net.

The second half saw Tomos Jones round off a fine individual performance with his second of the evening with an hour gone, and Elias Owen put the exclamation point on proceedings for the visitors in stoppage time.
