CAERNARFON Town booked their place in the JD Welsh Cup semi-finals with a resounding 4-0 win over Cefn Druids.
New Canaries’ boss Huw Griffiths picked up his first win at the helm at the expense of his former club, leaving Town in the final four and with a realistic chance of ending the season with some silverware.
The Cofis’ immediate attention turns to improving their JD Cymru Premier Championship Conference fortunes during their home clash against Newtown on Friday night.
A blistering start from the home side saw them go in front after just one minute when defender Nathan Peate diverted a Leo Smith corner into his own net.
The visitors dusted themselves off quickly following the setback and had the better of the first half, with Alex Ramsay having to pull off a series of fine stops to keep his side ahead at the interval.
After the break saw both sides find it difficult to adjust to the worsening conditions as heavy rain and high winds battered The Oval.
A critical moment cam on 57 minutes when Naim Arsan was shown a second yellow card for diving, leaving the Ancients’ facing the remainder of the tie with ten men.
The hosts took full advantage of their numerical supremacy on 64 minutes as Jamie Crowther steered in a chance after good work from Sion Bradley to double their advantage.
Things got even better for the Canaries’ soon after when Bradley went from provider to scorer, finishing well from a Darren Thomas delivery with 66 on the clock.
There was still time for the Cofis’ to put the exclamation point on proceedings, which came late on thanks to a sensational effort from Gruff John.
The former Porthmadog standout got on the end of a Nathan Craig corner and delivered a jaw-dropping backheel that caught Druids’ stopper Michael Jones unaware to round off the scoring.
