HOLYHEAD Hotspur’s quest for a historic quadruple goes on thanks to a 3-1 home victory over Llanrwst United.
The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One leaders booked their spot in the Barritt Cup third round with a workmanlike display in difficult conditions, with the Rwsters’ agreeing to switch the contest to The New Stadium after significant flood damage at their Gwydir Park base.
Spurs’ now turn their immediate attentions to increasing their four-point cushion at the summit when they welcome St Asaph City on Saturday.
Manager Darren Garmey, said: “We are satisfied with a solid win.
“We played the conditions brilliantly and created chances throughout the game which is not always easy against the wind.
“I thought our quality was too much for them overall, and it was typified by KC’s opening goal, which I have to say was one of the best team goals I have seen in a long time.”
The Holy Islanders’ began the contest on the front foot and went ahead on the quarter hour mark when midfielder Kenleigh Owen diverted an effort into the net to open the scoring.
United managed to weather some significant pressure on a blustering Anglesey afternoon throughout the remainder of the first half, but they were undone again moments after the interval as Alex Jones found some space and finished well with 47 on the clock.
Credit to the visitors, who bounced back well following the setback and got themselves back into the game on 53 minutes when Leon Doran continued his excellent season in front of goal with another well-taken strike to half the deficit.
United threw caution to the wind in the closing stages in pursuit of a leveller and they fell victim to a quick counter attack on 83 minutes that ended with Owen turning in his second of the afternoon to eventually decide an entertaining affair.
