FIVE senior squad members at Bangor 1876 have agreed to become coaches at their new Development Centre.

The Gwynedd League leaders confirmed that Les Davies, Cameron Barry, Ben Owen, Cian Williams and Dylan WIlliams will join director of football Iwan Williams in progressed talented young individuals from the region as part of the initiative.

Williams, said: “It’s great to have so much interest from the first team squad as it shows that we’re all pulling in the same direction.

“Having some of the first team players as coaches exemplifies the pathway that we want to follow for developing young players in the Bangor area and strengthens our message that we are a community club with big ambitions.

“This project is something we want to be able to look back on with pride in five years’ time.

“It is important to ensure that there is a pathway from the youngest age group right through the first team.”

The ambitious proposal secured approval from the North Wales Coast Football Association (NWCFA) last month and is set to be ready in time for the 2020-21 season.

Any player attending the 1876 Development Centre can play for their local teams, and Williams will also be working with Mathew Roberts, Alec Thomas, Gareth Williams and Ian Owen on the coaching staff.

Physical striker Davies, who is one of the most prolific players to ever grace the Welsh domestic system, is eager to lend his expertise in the possible pursuit of a coaching career in the future.

He said: “The fans have been a big part of my career and it would be nice to give something back to the people who have supported me for many years.

“Hopefully I can benefit from Iwan’s coaching experience and become a good coach in the future.”
