Y FELINHELI struck a telling blow in their quest for the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two crown with a dramatic 3-2 home win over title rivals Penmaenmawr Phoenix.
Things began well for the away side men despite the eventual result, with Sean Williams taking advantage of some space to drill in the opener on 18 minutes.
The home side bounced back midway through the half with a goal from Iwan Owen on 27 minutes, only for Phoenix top regain the upper hand after the break courtesy of Alfie Caldecott with 69 on the clock.
This joy proved to be short-lived as Ryan Cain found the net to restore parity once again on 72 minutes, and the visiting hearts were broken thanks to a decisive effort from Gruff John a minute from time to seal a vital three points at the death.
Gaerwen’s championship hopes suffered another blow as they were held 3-3 at Amlwch Town.
A brace from Connor Gordon and a solitary Chris Bennett effort was not enough for the visitors to keep pace at the summit, with goals from Dan Jones (2) and Luke McGivern ensuring a share of the spoils for the hosts.
Gwalchmai’s fading title hopes were dealt another blow as they were downed 4-3 at home by Llandudno Junction.
Things looked good for the newly promoted side in the first period thanks to home goals from Cory Sinnott, Marc Evans and Gareth Allman within the opening 21 minutes, but the Railwaymen mounted a sensational comeback thereafter which resulted in Rob Torr, Jack Williams and two own goals giving them the points.
A late penalty from Nathan Moore was not enough for Aberffraw to rescue a point as they were beaten 2-1 at Kinmel Bay, with Josh Owen and Rob Murfett both finding the net on two occasions in Pentraeth’s 3-3 home draw against Barmouth and Dyffryn United.
