BANGOR City could not make their way up the JD Cymru North table after they were held 1-1 at Corwen.

The Citizens’ hopes of a top six finish remain intact despite forcing to settle for a point on their travels, with Pedro Pasculli’s men on the road against this week when they make the short trip to Llandudno for a Friday night fixture (7.45pm).

Defender Simone Rea almost put the visitors ahead early on with a header that flew over, and City stopper Jorge Laborda had to be at his best to deny Gwydion Ifan at the other end after good work from Tom Williams.

The home side were handed a golden chance to open the scoring midway through the half when they were awarded a penalty, and Joe Williams held his nerve to fire past Laborda on 21 minutes to give Sion Tudor’s men a slender advantage.

Recent signing Wealth Da Silva came with inches of opening his account for the Citizens’ following the restart when his head from a Facundo Busto free-kick sailed inches wide, but things looked promising for the visitors in first half stoppage time when they were presented with a penalty of their own.

Italian forward Francesco Serafino was tasked with putting away the opportunity, but he lashed the attempt wide to extend his poor run in front of goal in recent weeks.

They did not have to wait much longer after the break for an equaliser, which arrived on 54 minutes when Santiago Chacon reacted first to head in a rebound after a Keighan Jones save to deny Serafino fell into his path.

City almost snatched all three points at the death when Chacon was this time thwarted by form Rhyl keeper Jones, and Esteban Boasso long range strike flew wide during what proved to be the final attacking action of the game.
