BANGOR City have slammed speculation linking them with disgraced former England international Adam Johnson.

The Citizens’ released a statement on Sunday evening denying the rumours that circulated earlier in the day regarding Johnson, who is looking for a route back into football after Johnson, a tricky winger who turned out for Manchester City, Sunderland and Middlesborough during his career, was sentenced to six years for engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old fan in 2016.

He was released halfway through his prison term and has not yet secured another contract with a professional club As a sex offender, Johnson will have to register his address and bank details with police and inform officers of any intention to travel abroad.

A Bangor City FC statement, read: “In light of the recent publication regarding Adam Johnson, the club can confirm that he will not be signing for Bangor City and has not been approached By Dominico Serefino the owner of the club or any other person acting in a management person of the club.

“The news is fake and as a result of this we are in the process now of making a formal complaint to North Wales Police.

“The company who sold the name Elitenews247 will be notified tomorrow of the breach of publications and notice will be served upon them for the instant removal of the site.”

Johnson admitted kissing the girl in question but denied claims that he touched her intimately and had an oral sex act performed by the teenager.

A jury found him guilty of sexual activity with a child in relation to “digital penetration” but cleared him of the same offence relating to the oral sex.

He had already admitted another charge of sexual activity with a child in relation to kissing and also of grooming the girl.
