Y FELINHELI’s championship hopes took a slight knock after they were held 2-2 at Pwllheli.
The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One title challengers fought back from two-down to claim a point from their latest away fixture, leaving them in second and three points behind Penmaenmawr Phoenix with three games in hand.
A disappointing start for the away side saw them go behind on 18 minutes when Dafydd Jones gave Pwll’ an early lead, and concerns worsened just before the interval when Mark Jones pounced to double their advantage with four remaining of the first period.
After the break saw the visitors slowly begin to impose themselves on proceedings, and they were handed a lifeline on 72 minutes when Iwan Owen found some space and finished well.
The same player was on hand to convert his second of the afternoon on 78 minutes and ensure both sides had something to show from an entertaining contest.
Gaerwen’s chances of lifting the crown were dealt a significant blow with a 3-1 reverse home defeat to league leading Penmaenmawr Phoenix.
The visitors got off to an imposing start and went ahead after just six minutes when experienced forward Mike Lundstram found the net, but they were pegged back just before the interval through a Tim Cavanagh strike with 40 on the clock.
After the break saw Phoenix regain the upper hand on 64 minutes when prolific forward Alfie Caldecott hit the target, with a Sean Williams penalty pulling them further clear late on with two remaining.
The result leaves Gaerwen in third position and four points behind Phoenix with a game in hand.
