BANGOR 1876 reached the Bob Owen Memorial Shield third round with a 5-1 win at Menai Bridge Tigers.

The fan-owned club came from behind to seal a passage to the next stage with minimal fuss, scoring their 150th competitive goal of the season during another impressive overall display.

Things did not begin well for the visitors, who fell behind on 12 minutes when a cross from Dale Owens evaded everyone and found its way into the net.

This joy proved to be short lived as the away side restored parity to the score-line on 17 minutes when Cian Williams fired in a half volley after being teed up by Matty Lock.

Mel Jones’ side got their noses in front for the first time on 40 minutes when Lock sent Dylan Summers-Jones through on goal, and the gifted youngster made no mistake with the finish to give them a slender cushion at the break.

After the interval saw 1876 increase their lead during the opening exchanges thanks to a close range header from Les Davies on 47 minutes, and the S4C Sgorio player of the decade was on hand to turn in a Shaun Lock delivery for his second of the tie with 65 on the clock.

There was still time for the visitors to put the exclamation point on proceedings, with Jamie Petrie getting in on the act on 80 minutes when he diverted a Summers-Jones cross into the net to complete the rout.

Nefyn United also booked their place in the third round hat thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 home triumph over Trearddur Bay Bulls.

The hosts got off to a flyer and went ahead on four minutes thanks to a fine attempt from Dylan Jones, but they were pegged back after the break when the prolific Craig Moore levelled matters with 52 gone.

With the game heading for extra-time, United managed to decide maters with eight minutes remaining thanks to Jones’ second goal of a very entertaining cup tie.
