LLANGEFNI Town have pulled off a transfer coup with the signing of talented forward Mel McGinness.
The JD Cymru North side confirmed the notable signing on Wednesday, with the popular figure arriving at Cae Bob Parry following a short spell at Porthmadog.
McGinness is best known for a glittering time with Holyhead Hotspur that spanned a decade and involved the player emerging as one of the best at his position anywhere in the region.
He took the hard decision to leave the Holy Islanders’ following their relegation to Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One in favour of remaining in the second tier with Port, but things did not go according to plan at Y Traeth that saw both side part ways earlier in the window.
Port manager Craig Papirnyk, said: “It hasn’t worked out in the way Mel would’ve liked and he needs to now go and find more regular football.
“I can’t fault Mel since I’ve been back at the club, he’s been great with everything and I would like to wish him all the success with his next club and with everything he does in the future.”
The gifted playmaker also played a significant role in Ynys Mon picking up a memorable gold medal from the Island Games last summer, which was hosted on Anglesey and saw thousands attend fixtures during the tournament.
This represents a significant addition for Cefni, as manager Chris Roberts looks to secure safety for the newly promoted club.
They have performed well above expectations so far this season and find themselves one spot above the bottom four following their defeat at Bangor City, two points ahead of Buckley Town having played three more than their relegation rivals.
