BANGOR City men’s hockey team were outclassed as they lost 6-0 on the road against runaway NWHL Division Two leaders Bowdon 4s.

Boasting a former England international in their ranks, Bowdon have won every home this season by handsome margins and unfortunately for the young City side, this game was no exception.

The first ten minutes were well contested, as both sides went in search of the opening goal.

However, once the experienced hosts clicked into gear, they proved difficult to stop. They netted four goals during the opening 35 minutes, with a string of saves from Harri Evans restricting them from scoring more.

City had their moments in the first half, with Keith Proudlove and David Paterson forcing the home keeper into action.

Bangor regrouped at half time and though the hosts continued to dominate possession, the visitors certainly upped their game after the restart.

They defended resolutely under pressure and counter attacked on several occasions. A shot from young Caleb Evans which struck a Bowdon foot led to a short corner, from which Tats Greenhalgh steered a firm shot just wide.

Proudlove also forced two good saves from the keeper, as City looked to get on the scoresheet.

At the other end, glovesman Evans made several more impressive stops while the City defence foiled wave after wave of Bowdon attack. However in the last 10 minutes, the home side scored two further well-taken goals to cap a commamding display against battling Bangor.

City remain two points above the relegation places in 10th, as they welcome 11th-placed Bebington 2nds to the Ffriddoedd 3G pitch for a crucial match on Saturday, 2.15pm pushback.
