LLANGEFNI Town picked up a massive point in their fight for JD Cymru North survival after coming from behind to seal a 1-1 home draw with Porthmadog.
The newly promoted side rose to the occasion after a disappointing first half to secure a share of the spoils against a dangerous Port outfit, which leaves Chris Roberts’ side two points clear of fourth-from-bottom Buckley Town having played two more times.
Another stern test awaits Cefni this Friday when they make the short trip to Bangor City (7.30pm).
Roberts, said: “It is a cracking point for us.
“I thought we were slow to get going and to conceded the penalty the way we did was disappointing.
“We reacted really well in the second half and were a lot brighter from the off. We didn’t allow them much time on the ball and manage to get a point in the end.
“I said it was not a must win as such, but it was definitely a must not lose for us and I said that to the lads both before the game and at half time. It is a huge point and we are going well in the league with 19 points now.
“We have got to keep taking points of the teams around us and I am not looking too far ahead. It is one game at a time and see where that takes us, but we have worked so hard to get into this league so it is all about staying in it and there is plenty of hard work to do.”
The visitors were presented with a golden opportunity to break the deadlock in the closing stages of the first half when they were awarded a penalty, and Josh Davies successfully converted the spot kick on 39 minutes to open the scoring.
After the break saw the hosts rally considerably in difficult conditions and they levelled matters on 82 minutes when Jordan Murphy took advantage of a mistake from Port stopper Paul Pritchard to ensure both sides had something to show for their efforts.
