GAERWEN bolstered their Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two title hopes with a 3-2 success at Mochdre Sports.

The championship contenders cemented their position in third spot following their latest triumph and they are now four points behind new leaders Penmaenmawr Phoenix with a game in hand.

A blistering start from the away side saw them go ahead after just two minutes when Chris Bennett found the net, and this was swiftly followed by another that came courtesy of a Llion Vaughan attempt with ten on the clock.

The visitors were in rampant mood during the opening exchanges and added a third on 16 minutes when Sean Pritchard finished well, but Sports weathered the storm and gave themselves a fighting chance heading into the break when Gareth Jones got them off the mark on the half hour.

After the break saw adverse weather play a significant part in proceedings and despite Chris Lloyd netting another for the home side two minutes from time it was not enough to prevent Gaerwen from securing their tenth win in 15 league games.

Barmouth and Dyffryn United move up to sixth with a convincing 3-0 home victory over Llandudno Junction.

Goals from Andrew Papirnyk, Bobby Griffiths and David Jones were enough for the Magpies to see out the game in comfortable fashion against a Junction side that had shown signs of life in recent weeks.

Basement dwellers Pentraeth had nothing to show from their trip to Llannefydd, with efforts from Brad Jones and Luke Appleby condemning them to a 2-0 loss.
