BANGOR 1876 opened up an eight-point gap at the Gwynedd League summit thanks to a 4-0 home victory over Waunfawr.

The fan-owned club made it 13 straight triumph in the league from what has been an incredible first season operating at a competitive level, and they opened the scoring early on when Cian Williams converted from close range after goalkeeper Rhys Jones failed to claim a loose ball.

The hosts were in rampant mood once again midway through the half which led to their second on 25 minutes, and this time it was experienced forward Les Davies who was on hand to steer in a header following a superb delivery from Matty Lock.

They wrapped up another three points a minute before the break when talented youngster Dylan Summers-Jones produced a moment of magic inside the area, conjuring a powerful attempt on the turn that gave Jones no chance.

After the break saw Mel Jones’ side find it more difficult to break down the visitors’ rear-guard thanks to a sterling overall effort, with Jones denying Summers-Jones and Dylan Williams during the second period with two fabulous stops to deny the home side.

Their persistence finally paid off late on when Sion Parry, a transfer window signing from Porthmadog, made an instant impact for his new club when he managed to find the net At the second attempt after Jones had thwarted his initial effort to round off the scoring in front of more than 300 supporters at Treborth.

Next up for the title favourites is a home encounter against Ogwen Tigers on Saturday, where another large crowd is expected as 1876 look to tighten their grip on the crown.
