NEFYN United progressed to the Bob Owen Memorial Shield second round with an emphatic 7-2 home triumph over Caergybi.

The in-form Gwynedd League side booked their place in the hat thanks to a mesmerising attacking display from Carl Jones, who turned in a finishing display of the highest quality to play a leading role in his side’s success.

Jones opened his account for the tie on 20 minutes to break the deadlock in favour of the hosts, and this was swiftly followed by another that arrived courtesy of Gethin Trenholme with 22 on the clock.

This was met by a good response from the visitors as they halved the deficit on 33 minutes when forward Gary Jo Owen netted his first goal for the club since returning from Holyhead Town, and they got back on level terms through Elliot Patterson during another impressive spell on 39.

Their joy was extremely short lived as Jones notched his second on 40 minutes to give the hosts a slight cushion at the break, with Daniel Roberts’ outstanding finish with 65 gone pulling them further clear after the interval.

The cup tie belonged to Jones thanks to a sensational final quarter of the clash which saw the prolific forward net three more times to take his tally for the contest to five and round off an exceptional knockout triumph for his side.
