BANGOR 1876 ended a memorable first year on a high by moving back to the Gwynedd League summit with a 13-2 home victory over Bontnewydd.

The fan-owned club extended their perfect league record to 11 and they have now scored 79 at an extraordinary average of 7.18 per contest, conceding just seven in that period.

They are now two points clear of Trearddur Bay Bulls with two games in hand, and Mel Jones’ men will look to tighten their grip on the crown during their trip to Glantraeth this Saturday.

A strong start from the hosts saw them go ahead on ten minutes through Matthew Lock, and talented youngster Dylan Summers-Jones was on hand to double their tally with just ten on the clock thanks to a superb long-range effort.

Summers-Jones was in relentless mood ad notched two more during the first period to seal yet another hat-trick in 1876 colours, and experienced forward Les Davies also got in on the act with a powerful strike to make it five just before the break.

The same pattern of play continued following the interval with Jamie Petrie adding to his prolific total this term on 52 minutes, with Cameron Barry rounding off an impressive individual display with a goal of his own after good work from Benn Lundstram with 69 gone.

Bont did manage to net two consolations midway through the half thanks to a pair of successful penalties from Matthew Roberts, but the home side were at their relentless best in the closing stages to net no fewer than six times in a 15-minute period.

Summers-Jones found the net twice more to end the contest with five, Davies hit a brace to secure a treble, and the duo of Luke Steele and Lundstram fired in a solitary goal apiece to complete the rout.

More than 400 descended on Treborth to witness the game, and a minute’s silence was held prior to kick-off in memory of Louisa Shooman.
