BANGOR 1876 moved to the Gwynedd League summit with an emphatic 6-0 home rout over Llanystumdwy.

The title favourites made lightwork of their latest outing to move above long-time pacesetters Trearddur Bay Bulls to extend their perfect league record to ten, and they also have two games in hand over their championship rivals heading into the second half of the campaign.

The home side’s early dominance eventually paid dividends on 25 minutes when talented youngster Benn Lundstram turned in a chance after good work from Dylan Summers-Jones, before experienced skipper Michael Johnston popped up with a rare header that found its way into the net to double their advantage with 34 on the clock.

Another strong passage of play towards the end of the period saw Shaun Lock’s powerful drive find the target in stoppage time, and this was swiftly followed by another soon after the interval when a probing pass from Jamie Petrie fell to the feet of Summers-Jones, who demonstrated tremendous composure to secure the points with 48 gone.

Petrie went from provider to scorer on 73 minutes when his speculative effort deceived the visiting custodian after the forward linked up well with Cameron Barry, and the home side rounded off another clinical afternoon at the office a minute from time thanks to a successful shot from distance by Ben Owen.

Mel Jones’ men round off the calendar year a week tomorrow (Monday, December 30) with a home tie against Bontnewydd (7.45pm), before starting the New Year with a trip to Glantraeth on January 2.
