LLANGEFNI Town manager Chris Roberts praised the character of his side after they came-from-behind to secure a vital 2-1 win at Corwen.
The newly-promoted outfit showed plenty of grit and determination to emerge with a crucial three points in their fight for JD Cymru North survival, leaving them 14th ahead of their tricky-looking trip to Gresford Athletic on Saturday.
Roberts, said: “The conditions were really difficult and the pitch was very boggy for both sides, so it was hard to play any football so we had to adapt our style of play a little bit.
“It was hard to get the ball out of our feet but Jamie (Roberts) managed to pull a goal back at half time and from then it was just a case of who wanted it more.
“The lads were fantastic, showed how much they wanted it and got what they deserved.
“It’s always going to be difficult this time of year and credit to the Corwen ground staff for even getting the game on. We know we’re not going to be able to get the ball down and play as we’d like at times so we adapted and the lads gave absolutely everything.
“I said at half-time this wasn’t a game of football, it was a battle, and every single one of them were absolutely fantastic. Gresford away is another tough one for us as we beat them in our first league game, so it’s going to be difficult.”
Things did not begin well for the visitors as they fell behind on 21 minutes when Harry Pooler headed home from close range after Dale Davies’ initial attempt was hacked off the line.
The away side managed to go into the break all square thanks to a sensational individual striker from Jamie Roberts, who beat numerous challenges before unleashing a dipping effort from long range into the net.
After the break saw the crucial moment arrive on 52 minutes when Callum McMinimee teed up Matthew Jones, and the livewire forward made no mistake with the finish to secure the points.
