TREARDDUR Bay Bulls advanced to the Bob Owen Memorial Shield second round with a 3-1 home victory over Bethesda Athletic.
The Gwynedd League leaders produced a fine second half display to eventually book their place in the hat against a spirited Athletic side, with both outfits missing a number of good opportunities during the first period to go into the break all square.
After the interval saw the hosts finally gain the upper hand when Justin Williams found some space and finished well on 47 minutes, only to be pegged back soon after when a period of pressure saw Shaun Morris level matters with 53 gone.
This provoked a strong response from the Bulls, who regained the advantage on 63 minutes when Williams turned in his second of the tie, and they wrapped things up late on when a quick break presented a chance to the prolific Tom Hadley, who produced a clinical finish to decide matters.
Glantraeth also reached the second-round stage thanks to a superb 9-2 home rout against Bontnewydd.
Brad Bland was in clinical mood for the home side throughout the clash and was rewarded with no fewer than five goals for his efforts.
Dillon Roberts, Morgan Rowlands, Rhys Griffiths and Iwan Kirkham also hit the target for the home side during an exceptional attacking display, with Josh Williams and Cai Penny Williams notching Bont’s consolations.
