CAERNARFON Town secured another notable scalp as they secured a 4-1 home win over in-form Barry Town United.

The Canaries were at their brilliant best against an under-strength United side at The Oval, securing another vital three points that moves them into four position in the top-flight standings.

Sean Eardley’s side will be aiming to build on this eye-catching result against the former JD Cymru Premier leaders this Friday when they make the trip to Newtown.

A cagey opening to the contest was brought to life on eight minutes when Cofis’ talisman Darren Thomas went on a mesmerising run before firing past Mike Lewis to break the deadlock with a sensational individual effort.

Livewire Danny Brookwell forced Lewis into a pair of smart stops immediately following the goal, with Sion Bradley and Cai Jones also causing significant problems for the visitors during the opening exchanges.

The away side weathered the storm and were presented with the perfect opportunity to get themselves back on level terms when Gruff John felled Momodou Touray in the box, and Kyle McLaggon held his nerve to convert the spot kick with 34 on the clock.

After the break saw the home side restore their advantage on 55 minutes when a Nathan Crig corner was deflected into the path of John, who atoned for his earlier area to convert his first ever top-flight goal.

Things got even better for the hosts when Craig successfully converted from the penalty spot after Thomas was brought down, and they wrapped up another impressive victory on 68 minutes when the outstanding Bradley got in on the act with a well-taken finish to round off the scoring.

Eardley’s side are now just three points behind league-leading Connah’s Quay Nomads after 13 games and nine ahead of seventh-placed Cefn Druids in the race for a top six finish at the split.
