CAMPBELL Harrison has stepped down as manager of the Ynys Mon men’s football side.

The former Holyhead Hotspur boss has called it a day after leading the squad to gold at the Inter-Island Games tournament this summer, which captured the imagination of island and attracted thousands of spectators to the tournament.

He will be replaced by Iwan Williams, a current Bangor 1876 player who has managed Caernarfon Town and Llandudno.

Williams worked closely with Harrison in an assistant role throughout the summer and will no be tasked with building on the substantial momentum created by a talented group of players.

He said: “Working alongside Campbell and his team to win a gold medal last summer was a fantastic privilege and I am honoured to have the opportunity to follow in his footsteps and manage the Ynys Mon Men’s football squad going forward.

“What we achieved last summer as an island was incredible, and I am very excited to continue the fantastic work that has been in put in already by Campbell and take this team forward in the future.

“With the development of an FAW-accredited Academy on the island progressing well and plans for more regular fixtures for our Ynys Mon senior teams in the future, this is a very exciting time for football on the island.

“After all of the success of the summer, and with Campbell stepping down, it is important that we have continuity on and off the pitch to ensure we continue to show the potential for football on Ynys Mon."

Williams drew widespread plaudits for his work at the Cofis’ before making a controversial move to Tudno, but things did not go according to plan at Maesdu Park as they were relegated from the JD Cymru Premier during his tenor.

The UEFA Licence candidate was heavily linked with a coaching position at Bala Town before joining Bangor 1876, who have yet to taste defeat in a competitive environment since their inception.
