BRO Goronwy advanced to the Bob Owen Memorial Shield second round thanks to a resounding 5-0 home win over Ogwen Tigers.

The in-form side made light work of their first-round encounter to book their place in the hat in convincing fashion, and a strong start to the tie saw them go ahead on 11 minutes when Connor Jones’ clean strike nestled into the net.

Things got even better for the home side soon after when another neat passage of play on 20 minutes presented another chance to Jones, who despatched the opportunity with ease to secure his second of the afternoon.

This was swiftly followed by another which came courtesy of Taylor Jones with 24 on the clock, and they wrapped up the victory in first half stoppage time thanks to a fine finish from Rui Silva.

The tempo noticeably slowed thanks to their commanding lead and worsening conditions after the break, but the hosts did manage to add to their tally on 74 minutes when Taylor Jones pounced again to secure his brace and complete the rout.

Waunfawr also made it through to the second stage of the competition with an emphatic 4-0 home victory over Llannerchymedd.

The home side got off to a flyer when Meurig Parry opened the scoring on six minutes, with Rhodri Owen’s superb strike increasing their cushion with 21 gone.

After the interval saw Rhys Davies all-but seal their place in the next round on 65 minutes, and Jac Evans put the exclamation point on proceedings with two remaining.
