SEVERAL Anglesey and Gwynedd based teams made it through to the second round of the NWCFA Junior Cup after claiming wins on Saturday.

Holders Bro Goronwy beat Hotspur Reserves 5-3 in a thrilling contest. Phil Jones put the visitors ahead early on in the tie before Ryan Jones, Jac Thomas and Gethin Hughes made it 3-1 to Bro. A spirited fightback from the young Hotspur side saw it back to 3-3 soon after thanks to goals from Mitch Jones and Chris Corrie.

The crucial moments came in the dying minutes of the clash, when Jordan Edney and Thomas put Bro into the next round.

Last year's Gwynedd League champions Menai Bridge Tigers are also through after a 7-2 win at Betws-y-Coed. Mitchell Jones (2), Kelvin Frazer, Owain Roberts, Ricky Owen, Tom Parry and Callum Davidson all on the scoresheet.

Bethesda Athletic secured their place in the second round as they came away from Holyhead Town Reserves with a 5-3 win, as did Llanystumdwy who beat Ogwen Tigers 4-3.

Nefyn United also advanced thanks to a 3-1 victory over Anglesey League side Cemaes Bay and Gwynedd League table-toppers Trearddur Bay Bulls eased to a 6-2 win over Machno United.

CPD Y Fali also made it through following a 5-2 win at Penrhyn Bay Dragons. Their goals were scored by Tudur Williams (2), Jerome Sillence, Callum Wood and Dion Evans.

Anglesey League side Bodorgan narrowly missed out on progression, crashing out 3-1 on penalties to Abergele following a 4-4 draw in the ninety minutes and Extra Time.

Pentraeth Reserves are also out following a 3-0 loss at home to Llandudno Athletic, Cefni crashed out 4-2 at the hands of Llansannan and Glantraeth fell to a 6-2 defeat at Rhuddlan Town.

The other teams into the second round are: Bro Cernyw, Llandudno Amateurs Reserves, Arriva Bangor, Bontnewydd, Caergybi, Cerrigydrudion, Denbigh Development, Henllan, Llandegfan, Llanfairfechan Town, Llanfairpwll, Llangoed, Llannerch-y-medd, Llysfaen, Meliden, Mountain Rangers, NFA, Rhos United, Rhyl All Stars, Talysarn Celts.

Llanelwy Athletic are also set to play Bangor 1876 after their match this weekend was postponed.
