CAERNARFON Town extended their sensational unbeaten run with a superb 1-0 home win over defending JD Cymru Premier champions The New Saints.

The Canaries’ are now eight top-flight games without defeat thanks to a rousing performance against the full-timers, with almost 1,000 supporters once again packing out The Oval to witness the Friday night clash.

This moved Sean Eardley’s side up to second spot before the weekend’s action, and the surprise early title challengers travel to Europa League heroes Connah’s Quay Nomads for their next league outing on Tuesday, October 15 (7.45pm).

Speaking to the Cofis’ YouTube channel, Eardley said: “There is a lot of emotion as it’s not every day you get a victory against TNS, so the lads have every right to enjoy their weekend but its back to work next week.

“The effort, hunger and desire shown by every one of them was second to none and they deserve every reward coming their way.

“I know it doesn’t mean anything at this stage but this is our highest position since coming into the league so we will enjoy it and it was another memorable night at The Oval.

“The game plan was to be brave and believe in the system, and the biggets satisfaction was that teams are beginning to watch us and the way we approach games now.

“We are aiming at the top six and want to be back there again, but it is a marathon not a sprint so I do think TNS will come good given the quality in their squad.

“We started brightly for the third game in a row and it proves just how crucial that is, because when you get the crowd behind you here for the entire game it really creates a special atmosphere.”

A tense first period saw both sides miss good opportunities to break the deadlock, with the telling moment arriving after the break when talisman Darren Thomas put Jamie Breese through on goal, and the in-form striker made no mistake with the finish to give the hosts a slender advantage.

Cofis’ stopper Alex Ramsay pulled off two exceptional saves in the closing stages from Ryan Brobbell and Chris Marriott, and the home side held firm in the face of some relentless pressure to seal another crucial three points.
