LLANDUDNO Albion bowed out of the JD Welsh Cup with a 4-2 reverse at the hands of Prestatyn Sports.

Sion Williams and John Hargreaves’ side outlined their intentions early on and went ahead after just six minutes when Dean Hyland unleashed a thumping effort from just outside the area that flew into the net.

They managed to make their dominance count yet again on 33 minutes when the lively Cy Williams conjured up a moment of magic with a superb strike from 20 yards to double Sports’ advantage heading into the break.

The away side came out with a renewed sense of purpose after the interval and were given a golden chance to get themselves back into the game from the penalty spot, but Ryan Jones was equal to the effort to divert away the spot kick.

Albion kept the pressure on and finally reduced the arrears on 72 minutes through a neat effort from Dan Evans, but Sports responded well to the setback and restored their two-goal cushion when Ian Dunn found the net after some incredible approach play from Robbie Dunn.

The home side booked their place in the hat late on when Sam Herd fired a sensational 20-yard attempt into the top corner, and despite prolific forward Dave Maddock hitting the target for the visitors’ second in stoppage time, it did not have an impact on the overall outcome of the cup clash.

Llanrwst United’s cup journey ended at the second qualifying stage following a 2-1 reverse at Llannefydd, and Glan Conwy also exited the competition with a 2-1 defeat at Aberffraw.

Mochdre Sports were also unable to make the first round proper despite a spirited display in their 4-2 home loss to third-tier side Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs.
