HOLYHEAD Hotspur manager Darren Garmey lauded his side’s second half display as they secured a comfortable 4-0 home success over Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One title hopefuls turned in a dazzling display after the break after being held scoreless by the newly promoted side in the first period, and the result leaves the Holy Islanders’ three points behind current pacesetters Denbigh Town with two games in hand.

Garmey, said: “I have to give the lads credit for the second half performance, which was the best 45 minutes of football we have produced this season.

“We didn’t do enough in the first 45 and the halftime team talk was simply us challenging our lads to raise the tempo and improve the quality on the ball, which they did and did so while being solid at the back.”

The Quarrymen did a tremendous job of frustrating the home side during the first 45 minutes, but they were undone almost immediately following the interval when prolific forward Chris Jones fired into the net from a tight angle to finally break the deadlock.

A superb strike from 20-yards by Roberts Llewelyn Jones doubled the home side’s advantage on 58 minutes following another spell of sustained pressure, and they wrapped up the points thanks to a delicate chip from Sam Ashworth with 80 on the clock.

There was still time for the championship contenders to rub further salt into the visitors’ wounds, with a fourth coming on 87 minutes through Dan McGinness to complete the scoring.
