PRESTATYN have been relegated from Liverpool and District Competition Division One following a seven-wicket reverse at Highfield.

The Beach Close side were unable to come up with a final day great escape to condemn them to the drop, with another dismal batting performance giving them too much to do in the second half of the encounter.

Things got off to the worst possible start for the visitors, who lost the influential trio of Robbie Rimmington (0), skipper David Harris (9) and Sheil Sethi (5) in quick succession during the opening exchanges.

Wickets continued to tumble during the middle order as Gareth Leonard (8), Rhys Jones (6), Andrew Harris (0) and Jake Jones (3) were all sent back to the pavilion after failing to impact the overall score, but Waqar Khan did provide some brief moments of quality before he was eventually dismissed on 35.

This left the away side all out for 80 after 35 overs of play, with Robert Halliwell claiming a five-wicket haul for the loss of 27 runs from a ten-over spell.

Welsh youth international Sethi tried to make a fight of things by claiming the wickets of openers Joel Welsby and Ryan Hargreaves for 12 and 21 respectively on his way to figures of 2-16, but Michael Gaskell ensured the home side reached their required target with minimal fuss with a knock of 37 before he fell victim to an Andrew Harris delivery.

The result leaves Prestatyn second from bottom of the final standings, with Harris’ side eventually finishing 36 point adrift of safety after winning just three of their 22 league games.
