PRESTATYN Sports finally picked up their first point of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One season with a creditable 1-1 draw at Llanrug United.

Sion Williams and John Hargreaves’ side produced a much-improved effort to come away with a share of the spoils against the championship contenders, and they will be looking to build on this momentum during their next outing at Bodedern Athletic in the Lock Stock Cookson Cup first round on October 5.

A cagey opening to proceedings saw Sports defend resolutely against a formidable United attacking line-up, restricting their opponents to few opportunities that they were unable to convert.

Gradually the home side began to wear away their spirit thanks to a persistent period of pressure towards the end of the first period, and they were rewarded for this on 43 minutes when veteran striker Kevin Lloyd broke free and turned in a chance to give the hosts a slender cushion at the interval.

Credit to the away side, who picked themselves up after the break and began to impose themselves on proceedings with an effort that defies their current position in the standings.

They crucially got back on level terms when Dean Hyland created some space for himself inside the box, and the gifted forward unleashed a powerful effort into the net to restore parity to the score line.

The home side threw everything at Sports in the closing stages in pursuit of a winner, but they were unable to find a way past a determined defence to ensure both sides had something to show for their efforts.
