A BALA TOWN FC midfielder has announced that he has been battling a form of blood cancer.

On September 19, Daniel Gosset broke the news that he has been living with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Since being diagnosed in August, he has been undergoing treatment at the Christie Hospital in Manchester.

In a statement released on Bala Town's website, the player said: "I count myself lucky that I’m able to get the best possible care to overcome this.

The support I’ve received since the diagnosis has been incredible and I’m truly grateful to everyone who has been in contact.

"During the Europa League play-offs I suspected something was wrong as I was suffering from an unusual pain in my left leg. After weeks of rest during the close season unfortunately, nothing changed. I would like to thank Ffiona Evans, our physiotherapist at Bala for encouraging me to have further tests. This encouragement led to the diagnosis.

"A massive thank you also to everyone at Bala Town, from the manager and players to all the staff for their support over these past few months. I’m proud to be part of this special club and will do everything in my power to be back on the pitch at Maes Tegid as soon as possible."

Gosset is a household name within Welsh football having turned out for the likes of Rhyl, The New Saints and Bangor City before moving to Bala in 2018.

The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Cymru Premier side Cefn Druids and has also played in the English Football League system in the past - turning out for Oldham in 2013/14.

He has also represented Wales at C level, where he made his international debut against England in March 2018.

Following Gosset's announcement this week, clubs, coaches and fellow team mates and opponents have taken to social media to wish him well on his road to recovery.

Former club Bangor City wrote: "In light of the news today published about Danny Gossett, Bangor City offer our support through this time in anyway we can.

"Danny was a dynamo in the heart of our midfield and if his determination to win on the field can now be carried over to his treatment he will certainly make a good recovery.

"Danny, you can do this and we offer any support at all we can give to you and your family at this time. Keep kicking and all at the club hope to see you back on the field very soon."

A spokesperson for Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen's (Caernarfon) Physical Education department, where Gosset was once a student, wrote: "Speedy recover Danny and best wishes to you with your treatment. Everyone in the department is thinking of you."

Current club Bala Town thanked everyone who sent in messages of support for their player, saying: "We appreciate every single one".
