BANGOR 1876 booked their place in the FAW Trophy third round with a 3-1 victory over Pwllheli.

The newly formed side picked up another notable early season scalp in the form of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two title hopefuls despite missing the services of top scorer Jamie Petrie through illness.

Pwll’ began the game on the front foot and almost went ahead on eight minutes when Dafydd Gwyn Hughes only managed to hit the side netting with a good opportunity.

The hosts gradually began to find their feet and carved out their first opening soon after when a looping effort from Dylan Summers-Jones nestled on the roof of the net, and the same player was the key creator behind the opener on 22 minutes when he produced a fine piece of individual skill to set up Jos Lloyd for the easy finish.

Marcus Banks went close to levelling matters following the restart when his rousing attempt was turned away by Leon Jones, with veteran striker Les Davies’ effort falling the wrong side of the post on 34 minutes.

Another crucial moment in the tie arrived in first half stoppage time when the away side restored parity to the score-line through Gareth Jones-Evans, who unleashed a ferocious strike that gave Jones no chance.

The all-important breakthrough for the home side arrived on 72 minutes when Dylan Williams burst down the flank before firing a delivery into the path of Lloyd, who duly turned in his second of the afternoon.

This was followed by another from the hosts immediately following the restart, with Lloyd going from scorer to provider with a sublime pass that was finished off in style by Cameron Barry to complete the scoring.
