BONTNEWYDD moved up to fifth in the Gwynedd League standings after a resounding 9-1 triumph at Llannerchymedd.

The title hopefuls made light work of their Thursday night contests at the basement dwellers, and they opened the scoring on 18 minutes through a neat finish from Alun Williams.

Things got even better soon after when Cai Penny Williams pounced to double their advantage with 27 on the clock, and the away side all-but sealed their victory on 33 minutes when another sweeping move was finished off by Daniel Evans.

This same pattern of play continued after the break, with Josh Roberts adding a fourth on 49 minutes and Morgan Roberts firing in his first of the evening a minute following the restart.

Roberts was in clinical mood during a devastating spell that saw him net twice more in quick success on 57 and 60 minutes to round off his superb display with a hat-trick, and a brace from Aled Steel during the remainder of the second period completed the rout.

The home side did have one consolation to show for their efforts, which came courtesy of Shaun Pritchard after 76 minutes.

Bro Goronwy turned in a much-improved display to come away with a 2-1 victory at Llangoed.

The visitors made an imposing start on proceedings and went ahead on 28 minutes when Jac Thomas made the most of the space afforded to him with a composed finish that hit the target.

This was followed by Rob Tiesteel’s effort on 35 minutes that extended their tally, and despite a Sam Gregson goal with 41 gone it was not enough to deny Bro a crucial three points.
