A LEADING building firm have been confirmed as the main sponsor for the upcoming Inter Games football tournament.

Competition officials confirmed that Huws Gray will be the headline sponsors for the event, which is being held across Anglesey for the first time.

Huws Gray are the largest independent builders’ merchants in the UK, with several branches and a Head Office employing 170 people on the island.

The tournament’s organising committee will rename the competition the Huws Gray Ynys Mon 2019 Inter-Island Games as part of the agreement.

More than 500 athletes and officials from 16 men’s and women’s football teams across the world will descend on the island in time for the opening ceremony, which will take place on June 15.

Gareth Parry, Ynys Mon 2019 project manager, said: “We’re delighted to announce Huws Gray as headline sponsors for this summer’s tournament and we’re really excited to work with a company that has done so much for football across the island and the country over many years.

“With less than a month to go until the tournament gets underway with the opening ceremony on June 15, we’re delighted to have been able to welcome Huws Gray on board and look forward to having them on this exciting journey with us as we make further exciting announcements in the weeks to come.

“Huws Gray represent the very best of what Anglesey has to offer in many ways. Having developed from formation as a single branch on Anglesey nearly 30 years ago to the point now where they’re one of the most recognisable names in Wales and beyond – not just in their field, but across the board – is a testament to the fantastic growth of the company and we look forward to our tournament growing in partnership with our new headline sponsors over the coming weeks.”
