LLANGYNHAFAL 2

NANTGLYN 2

IT was honours even as two of the Summer League's in-form teams clashed on a sunny Thursday night in Ruthin.

Due to Rhewl pavilion being utilised as a polling station for the European elections, the encounter between Llangynhafal and Nantglyn was moved to Ruthin Town FC.

A large crowd was in attendance to witness a hugely entertaining encounter and both sides will feel they had the opportunity to take the three points.

Nantglyn had the lead twice on the night, only to be pegged back on both occasions, while Llangynhafal - targeting a magnificent seventh success in a row - finished the match on top and they dominated the closing stages.

The best early chance went the way of Llangynhafal when young striker Charlie Caton was sent in the clear, but he was denied by a good save from Nantglyn number one Leon Gierke.

At the other end, dangerous wide man Gruff Roberts set up a glorious opportunity in the dangerzone and this was blocked by a Nantglyn player on the line.

Nantglyn kept out an almighty scramble as the hosts knocked on the door and it was the visitors who took the lead in the 25th minute.

The ball broke on the edge of the box for Gruff Roberts and he shifted it to his left foot before cracking in a powerful shot that went in off the post.

Just when it appeared that Nantglyn would take a lead into the interval, Llangynhafal levelled things up via Owain McKee right on the stroke of half-time.

Nantglyn would regain their advantage 12 minutes into the second period.

The ball was played to Ifan Jones, whose effort from around 16 yards went into the net.

Back came Llangynhafal once again and they were able to make it two-apiece in the 64th minute.

After the ball had been kept alive by the hosts, Sion T Roberts was there to score.

It was mainly Llangynhafal who did the pressing after this and they did have a few glimpses of the goal during the latter stages.

However, Nantglyn remained strong to pick up a fine point.
