YNYS Môn Women’s football team have announced a provisional 22-player squad for this summer’s Inter Island Games tournament.

The competition is being held on Anglesey for the first time ever and manager Karen Williams has named an incredibly strong-looking squad for the showcase, which features Sheffield United and Welsh international goalkeeper Nicky Davies.

She competed for Ynys Môn for the first time at the 2003 International Island Games, with 15 of the 21 named having competed at the event previously.

Williams, said: “It has been a real journey and I’d love to be able to take every player with me to the tournament, because they’ve all worked so hard and given their all, but I’ve had to make some tough decisions and there are still some more to come.

“We started this adventure last summer, getting together for the first time in Amlwch last July and the commitment and desire from every single player since then has been outstanding.

“I’m confident that whoever is selected for the final squad in a few weeks’ time, we’ll be in a good position to succeed when the real action starts in June.

“As a team we keep talking about what an honour it would be to represent Ynys Môn on home turf this summer – ourselves and the men’s side will be the first ever football teams to do it at this level – and we just can’t wait to get going now.

“I look forward to continuing to working with this fantastic group of players over the coming weeks, before having some difficult decisions to make as we announce our final squad of 18.”

Amlwch Town Ladies are incredibly well represented with nine players included in the squad, with Caernarfon Town Ladies having three representatives in the form of Ffion Owen, Ceri Slaney and Beth Jones.

The final squad of 18 players will be announced over the coming weeks.
