CONWY Borough have received a boost with the news of two influential squad members committing for next season.

The Tangerines confirmed that skipper Iolo Hughes and forward Cory Williams will remain at Y Morfa for the 2019/20 campaign in Tier 2 North, with the pair becoming the first re-signings for newly appointed manager Russ Williams.

Hughes is entering his third season with Borough and led the squad to promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance in a memorable treble-winning campaign.

His influence was especially evident throughout last term as the group re-established themselves as a second tier force.

Director of Football Warren Gibbs, said: “We are delighted that Iolo has committed for the upcoming season.

“He is a very talented player who is a positive influence and presence both on and off the pitch. The club is really pleased to be able to attract players of Iolo’s ability.”

Williams had to remain patient for opportunities throughout the season thanks to the outstanding form of Dean Seager and Corrig McGonigle, but he came on strong in the closing stages of the campaign with a series of exceptional displays, including a hat-trick against former club Rhyl.

“We are delighted that Cory is staying at Y Morfa,” added chairman Chris Witton.

“He is a very popular player at the club and his attitude is first class. His hat-trick against Rhyl was sublime and showed the quality he has to offer.”
