LLANGEFNI Town manager Chris Roberts could not hide his delight as his side finally clinched the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One title.

The pre-season title favourites lived up to their billing and finished on a high with a 2-0 home success over championship rivals Bodedern Athletic, securing promotion to Tier 2 North to end a series of near-misses.

This also secured a double for all-conquering Cefni, who can seal a memorable treble in their Mawddach Challenge Cup final against Llanrwst United next week.

Roberts, said: “It was a great way to end the league campaign last night with a win and cracking performance against a good Bodedern side.

“We had a game plan and the lads executed it to perfection. We were up for it from the first whistle and never looked like conceding.

“I have to congratulate Bodedern on a fantastic season. It has been a long season having already played 45 games in all competitions this season and still have a cup final left to play.

“The lads have been fantastic throughout and to go unbeaten away from home and only concede 16 goals in 28 games in the league is a great achievement.

“We’ve been knocking on the door for the past two seasons and I was determined to ensure the League Championship was coming home to Llangefni this time around.

“We have no budget to pay the players but I was still confident every season of building a squad capable of winning the league and that is what we have done.”

Roberts also paid tribute to the club’s backroom staff and volunteers, who all played a key role in what has been a memorable season to date, and the talented young manager has now set his sights on more silverware in their end of season showcase against the Rwsters.

“We have now won both the Cookson Cup and Welsh Alliance Division One trophies and have our sights on completing the treble,” added Roberts.

“We have a cracking bunch of lads with us at Llangefni who really do play for myself and the badge on their chest.

“My backroom staff have worked hard alongside me to ensure the players have stayed focused, worked hard and achieved what we set out to do. It was great to see so many local Llangefni people attend the game last night and join in on the celebrations.

“This League Championship is for them and the committee members of Llangefni FC. Two down one to go.”
