PWLLHELI’s hopes of mounting a late bid for the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two title were dealt a blow as they were held 1-1 at home by Gaerwen.

The promotion hopefuls now need to beat championship rivals Glan Conwy on Saturday and win all their remaining games in hand to stand any chance of achieving the crown, with the games coming thick and fast thanks to a series of postponements over the winter.

A tense first period saw the visitors take a shock lead on 40 minutes when a neat passage of play presented a chance to Darren Lewthwaite, who made no mistake with the finish to break the deadlock.

After the break saw the home side get back on level terms when Mark Jones finished well on 65 minutes, but despite laying siege to the visiting goal in the closing stages they were unable to find a winner and had to be content with a share of the spoils.

Pentraeth picked up their tenth victory of the season in their penultimate fixture thanks to a 3-0 triumph at Y Felinheli.

Ryan Woods got the away side off to a flyer with a well-taken effort on 35 minutes, and things got even better for them following the interval when Jack Diamond increased their cushion with 55 gone.

The impressive Woods capped off a superb individual display with a clinical strike to secure his brace on 62 minutes, and the visitors saw out the remainder of the game in comfortable fashion to seal three points.
