BLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs retained their slender lead at the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two summit thanks to a 5-2 victory at Y Felinheli.

The Quarrymen ended what has been a fantastic campaign with another polished display, but they will need some luck if they are to get their hands on the coveted trophy as Glan Conwy lie one point behind them with two games in hand after their thumping 9-0 home rout over Meliden.

The visitors got off to the best possible start and went ahead on two minutes through an Arwyn Hughes finish, and they pulled further clear thanks to strikes from Tom Hughes and Iwan Jones to give them a three-goal cushion with just 24 on the clock.

Connor Jeffries replied for the hosts soon after with a goal that was met by an instant response from Iwan Griffiths, and Arwyn Hughes notched his second of the game after the break to seal the victory.

Goals from Joe Donovan and Gari Jo Owen were not enough to give Holyhead Town an away win at Amlwch Town, with Chris Byast and Daniel Jones netting in the final ten minutes to secure a share of the spoils in a 2-2 stalemate.

Llannerchymedd’s fine recent form came to an end with a 4-1 loss at high-flying Llannefydd, but there was better fortune for Gaerwen as a brace from Darren Lewthwaite playing a significant role in their 5-1 success at Pentraeth.
