CONWY Borough produced their finest performance of the season to secure a sensational 5-0 win at Rhyl.

The Tangerines saved their best for last with a stunning display against their high-profile opponents, leaving them in 11th spot ahead of their final Huws Gray Alliance fixture at relegation-threatened Penrhyncoch on April 27.

Recent signing Raphael Glauser hit the post for the home side with the first chance of the contest, but Warren Gibbs’ men broke the deadlock on nine minutes when prolific forward Corrig McGonigle reacted first to put away a rebound after Rory Crowther parried an initial effort.

Things got even better for the visitors soon after when former Lilywhite Cory Williams latched on to a defensive error from Max Peate to double their advantage on 12 minutes, and the same player was on hand to head home a third following a corner with 27 on the clock.

Cai Owen went close late in the first period for the hosts, but they fell further behind after the break when Gethin Maxwell unleashed a ferocious strike into the top corner on 54 minutes that gave Crowther no chance.

The Lilies’ misery was compounded on 63 minutes when Boro’ were awarded a penalty, and Williams rounded off a hugely impressive return to his old club by successfully despatching the spot kick to secure his hat-trick.

There was a golden chance for the home side to notch a consolation through a penalty of their own on 68 minutes, but Mike Pritchard’s effort was diverted superbly by visiting custodian Ben Heald.

Defender Ben Nash steered a shot wide in the closing stages, ensuring the Tangerines saw out the remainder of the game with minimal fuss to seal a memorable three points.
