MELIDEN were unable to cause a stir at the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two summit as they were thumped 9-0 at title favourites Glan Conwy.

The Miners were second best throughout their contest against the promotion hopefuls, and they bid farewell to the fourth tier in their final league outing at Y Felinheli on April 27.

The home side raced into an early lead when prolific forward Jordan Phillips opened the scoring on four minutes, and the former Mochdre Sports standout doubled their tally immediately following the restart.

This was swiftly followed by an excellent strike from Morgan Owen following a fine team move on 17 minutes, and Azzy Boyle notched a fourth for the home with just 32 on the clock.

A miserable first period for the visitors was mad worse when an own goal on 39 minutes gave Glan a five-goal cushion at the interval, and this same pattern of play continued after the break as Phillips rounded off another clinical display with his hat-trick from the penalty spot with 54 gone.

Some more prolonged pressure from the home side brought yet another goal on 65 minutes when Jamie Jones converted a chance from close range, and Conor Davies was the next to find with target on 77 with a neat finish.

There was still time to rub further salt into the visitors’ wounds, with striker Merrick Knight completing the rout four minutes from time.

The result leaves the Miners in 12th position with one game remaining before they move back to the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League system.
