LLANYSTUMDWY reached the next round of the Gwynedd Cup with a thrilling extra-time victory over Bontnewydd.

Despite the eventual result it was the visitors who were quickest out of the blocks when Alun Williams opened the scoring on 35 minutes, and the prolific Ian Pleming doubled their advantage two minutes after the interval.

This finally provoked the home side into life, and they got themselves back into the tie with two goals in quick succession from Dafydd Jones and Darren Parry on 57 and 66 minutes respectively, but an end-to-end contest saw Bont regain the initiative when Morgan Roberts converted with 75 gone.

That looked to be enough to enable the visitors to advance, but Sion Guto popped up with a stoppage time equaliser to send the game into an additional 30 minutes.

It was one-way traffic throughout extra-time, with Guto firing a brace to complete his hat-trick and Jones adding another to his collection to seal victory for the hosts.

Also progressing to the next round are Waunfawr, who triumphed 2-1 at Mynydd Tigers thanks to efforts from Shaun Roberts and Jac Evans.

In the only Gwynedd League contest of the weekend, Nefyn United built on their midweek Bob Owen Memorial Shield success with a 3-1 win at Glantraeth.

A brace from Daniel Roberts did the majority of the damage either side of half-time, with Karl Jones also finding the target on 68 minutes to secure thee points.
