ST ASAPH City were unable to build on their positive recent form as they fell to a heavy 6-1 reverse at Barmouth and Dyffryn United.

The Saints had an unusually bad day at the office to fall to one of their biggest defeats of the season, and Daniel Brewerton’s occupy eighth spot in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One standings ahead of their next outing at title favourites Llangefni Town on Saturday (2.30pm).

Things did not begin well for the away side and they fell behind on 17 minutes when Shane Jones notched his first of the afternoon on 17 minutes, and United doubled their advantage just before the break when Paul Lewis finished well.

A lapse in concentration saw Jones despatch his second of the contest after 42 minutes, and the same player was on hand to all-but secure the points with his hat-trick on 72.

City had no answer for the prolific Jones throughout the contest, and the forward notched his fourth after another outstanding spell of pressure on 80 minutes, and this was swiftly followed by yet another from the same clinical player with 83 gone to take his tally for the encounter to five.

The visitors did manage to grab a consolation as a result of their efforts late on, with Paul Fleming converting from the spot in what turned out to be the final noteworthy event of a disappointing day at the office.
